Some Known-Unknown Destination of Darjeeling

 

            COVID-19 has ended the days of entertainment-loving people. The cinema hall is closed. For Corona, no one even has a plan to go around. Instead, the words mask, sanitizer, containment zone, hotspot made the ears rot all the time. How long can you stay at home for seven consecutive months? Latpanchar 

            This is another Darjeeling. Nature rules the birds here. Nature also indulges the birds. Latpanchar is the name of such softness lying on the lap of the mountain. This is a village where shawls, teak & pine are mixed. And there is a lot of cinchonas. Many people who love birds have come here. And for those who did not come, Latpancher has left the door open. There are at least 240 species of birds in this forest. The most famous of these is the Rufus Naked Hornbill. Rufus means a mixture of brown and red. This hornbill is now almost extinct. Mongpu            

            Rabindranath Tagore came and spent some time in the hill town of Mongpu. He visited here three times between 1938 and 1940 as a guest of Manmohan Sen and Maitreyi Devi. Yet this Mongpu is a paradise of various orchids. 12 km from here, you can reach Sikkim directly by taking the National Highway No. 10. And Darjeeling is 32 kilometers away. Rangaroon        

            Rangaroon is one of the traditional Darjeeling tea bases that has been admired by Buckingham Palace in faraway London for centuries. From now on, Kanchenjunga can be seen as the window of the house next door. One of the oldest tea gardens here is the tea garden. The sleeping station is one of the attractions of the city which is seven thousand feet above sea level. The highest railway station in the world. The city of Darjeeling is very close to here. Tiger Hill is also within reach. Showing sunrise in Rangaroon is also a memorable experience. You have to return to this hilly area, again and again, to retire from Khaling Cottage.

Sitong 

            Sitong is a valley where you can visit only oranges. Sitting is actually Lepcha's own country, where there is no word for pollution. Here the trees are uprooted and the result is oranges. This is the seat of Darjeeling's oranges that we crave all winter for on the plains. And there are various organic farming. It is a village on the banks of the Riang River at an altitude of 4,800 feet above sea level. There is the ancient church of Lepcha. There are showers. Kanchenjunga peeks out from time to time. For those who want to get closer from here, Senchal and Mahananda Sanctuary are within reach. And there are tea gardens on the horizon. The Rabindranath Tagore Museum in Mongpu is only eight kilometers from here. For those who want to get around Darjeeling in broad daylight, they have to walk only 32 kilometers. Chibo 

            Just 6 km from Darjeeling, Chibo is a beautiful hill station. If you look at the houses growing on the hill here, you will think that wooden boxes are arranged on the slope of the hill. Shallow forests of incense and pine all around. On a sunny day, the Queen of the Himalayas peeks through the gaps in the forest. Kanchenjunga. Samthar

             A cave, the mouth of the cave has penetrated into the darkness from the sloping ground. The starting path is covered with rusty dry leaves. Feel the cold air inside. A long time ago, someone called Lama Darji entered the cave. Came out two hours later. The mouth of this cave has gone to the Teesta. The kings of Sikkim used to flee this way. The name of that place is Samthar. Fifty-eight kilometers away from New Jalpaiguri.

             You have to cross the Raily river in Samthar. The fun of dipping your feet in the cold water of the fast-flowing river is different. There is a hanging bridge over the river. When you walk a little harder, it starts to shake. Leaving the Teesta on the right-hand side, one has to enter the road of Samthar. There is one more cave on the opposite side. His mouth, however, closed with wet soil.

Takdah

            Takdah, a hill town, was once a British military colony. That history is still alive. This cantonment still smells of the subjugated country. There are 36 bungalows here, which are centuries old. And there are orchid gardens. The garden has almost all the species of orchids found in North Bengal.
