Nanda Devi

Nanda Devi is the 2nd highest mountain in India after Kangchenjunga and the highest one entirely within the region (Kangchenjunga, is higher than Nanda Devi, on the border of India and Nepal). It is the twenty-third highest peak in the world. It is a portion of the Garhwal Himalayas and is situated in the Chamoli region of Uttarakhand, between the Rishiganga Valley & the Gouriganga Valley.
Rishiganga
The second highest point in India, the "Bliss-Giving Goddess," Nanda Devi is surrounded by mythology. At an altitude of 7,817metres (25,644 ft.), it has been inaccessible to climbers since 1983 and is protected by an impenetrable sanctuary of isolation.
The difficulty of approaching one of the most prominent peaks in the Indian Himalayas is that it is surrounded by the natural boundary of the nearby mountains, many of which are over 6,420 meters high. This place became known as the "Sanctuary" and was not abused for the first time until 1934.
While the mountain was later re-opened for another period, it was shut again in 1983 to form National Park. The park, along with the nearby Valley of Flowers, was proclaimed a UNESCO World Heritage Spot in 1998.
Nanda Devi and Valley of Flower National Parks
The Nanda Devi and the Valley of Flowers National Parks are particularly spectacular high-altitude West Himalayan landscapes with excellent wildlife. One of the most stunning forest areas in the Himalayas, Nanda Devi National Park is located at the 7,817-metre summit of Nanda Devi, India's 2nd highest mountain approached by the Rishi Ganga, one of the deepest on the earth. The Valley of Flowers National Park, with its gentler scenery, spectacular magnificent meadows of alpine flowers & ease of access, complements the rugged, remote, high mountain forest of Nanda Devi. Apart from certain community-based ecotourism to small parts of these preserves, there has been no anthropogenic force in this region since 1983. This property thus serves as a control site for the conservation of natural processes and is of high value for long-term ecological watching in the Himalayas.
Valley of Flowers
Both ecological areas include a high diversity and variety of plants and animals in the western Himalayan biogeographic region, with large numbers of globally endangered species, including snow leopards, Himalayan musk deer & various plant species. This entire habitat, situated within the Western Himalayan Endemic Bird Area (EBA), supports large numbers of mountain ungulates that are vulnerable to carnivores such as snow leopards.

Lilam 🔜 Bogudiar 🔜  Rilkot 🔜 Milam Village ðŸ”œ Ganaghar ðŸ”œ Nanda Devi Base Camp

Day 1 :
It's too late to get out of the permit problem. The destination target Chilamdhar. An hour's way. The trek started from there. The destination of that day is Lilam Village, five kilometers away. Arrived in the evening. A small village like the picture in the lap of the hill. The overnight stay was arranged in a house in the village. The mobile network is available till here last.
Day 2 :
The journey started with a good breakfast. Mensing top in front. Climb the road for about four kilometers. The two-kilometer road to Babaldhar then descends through dense forest. Two kilometers downhill and Goriganga was seen at the end of it. The next road is quite pleasant. It was four o'clock in the afternoon when we finally reached the destination Bugdia. Here one can contact their home from satellite phones of the Indian's troops.
Goriganga
Day 3 :
Today's target - Rilkot. The first target T point, then after going some distance, Nahardevi. Filling the visitor's body with liquid warmth, you started walking along the side of Goriganga & reached Rilkot in the afternoon.
Day 4 :
The target destination is Milam village. About 20 kilometers. The first one kilometer is quite a climb. Trekkers should be crossed that path carefully under the direction of the team leader. Then the drive-way & reached Milam. The locals had set up temporary settlements here in the interest of trade and commerce. The school, the post office were all there. Later this settlement was shifted to Munshiyari with the help of the Government. Now it is a skeleton of a memorial. Rows and rows of stone houses are deserted. The body is creepy when you think about it.
Day 5 :
The day of fulfilling the first goal. Let's go to see the source of Milam Glacier and Goriganga. The beautifully paved road up to the first viewpoint with Clear sky. The color of the sky is so blue, maybe never seen before. The further you cross the viewpoint, the more nature changes. Now there is no specific road. We walked along the path shown by the guide over Moren Land in the glacier. On the left, like baby Goriganga seems to be crawling. At one point you reached the source where Goriganga started. Quiet ice-freezing all fountains. Occasionally there is the sound of snow falling from a glacier. Amazing experience, which never forgets in life.
Day 6 :
Target Nanda Devi Base Camp from today. First destination -  Ganaghar. Left Milam, crossed the bridge over Goriganga. The road reached Ganaghar through dense alpine grass.

Day 7 :
Today is a cheerful mood target is Nanda Devi base camp. At the first viewpoint, see the fire-color on Nanda Devi's head! From here the eastern and western part of Nanda Devi can be seen. Only the East can be seen from the base camp. Snow sightings on the streets. Roads have collapsed in many places. Somehow a place to put one's foot down. The fear of slipping on ice is enough. The guide's careful vision is above all. He may be holding hands in some places and lastly see Nanda Devi is in front. The head is covered with a sheet of milky white ice. Glacier came out of her feet. How many more hills around. Imagine if you raise your hand, you can touch it.
Best time to Visit :
The Nanda Devi East Base Camp trek is the best time in the summer months of May to June and September - October.

** Houses are available in the village to spend the night during the trek, but they may not be useable, so tents and sleeping bags, torch, are must essentials.
