Lansdowne, Uttarakhand

  


                Lansdowne is a charming little hill town in the Pauri district of Uttarakhand, situated 250 km from Delhi. This hill station, filled with oak and pine forest & dotted with colonial-era homes, is a sanctuary for NCR bird watchers, casual hikers & weekenders. Lansdowne, in Pauri Garhwal district, is a cantonment town.

              The town was explored by the British and got its name from Lord Lansdowne, the then Viceroy of India (1888-1894). The guesthouses here are fading reminiscences of the colonial era, and from their balconies, they give a spectacular view of the hill peaks.

Bhulla Lake :

              
            Bhulla Lake is a well-maintained, beautiful lake built and maintained by the Indian Army and one of the most popular picnic spots among locals and tourists. Bhulla Lake is loved for its calm climate as it is not very crowded and sufficient boating facilities are available here.  There is an amusement park nearby that is very popular with children.

Darwan Singh 
Regimental Museum :

            


              Named Darwan Singh Negi, holder of the Victoria Cross is a historical defense museum situated built-in 1923, near the Lansdowne parade ground. This beautifully decorated two-storied building has a range of weapons, uniforms, army generals' most rare photos, awards, and descriptions of the Garhwal Rifles' history and accomplishments.

Tip N Top :


                A small hilltop viewpoint situated at 1750 metres above sea level, Tip N Top, also commonly known as Tiffin Top, provides tourists with spectacular, breathtaking scenery. Tip N Top is visited every year by thousands of people who visit the place to enjoy the peace and tranquility that the region provides. This popular attraction place is situated only 1.5km away from the main town of Lansdowne.  The name itself suggests that in all of Lansdowne, the place is the top point, and the allure is like heaven reborn on Earth. It offers tourists magnificent panoramic views not only of the entire city, but also of the surrounding forested area, and with the magnificent Himalayan range in the background, the Garhwal Hills. Imagine waking up in front of your eyes to see the full skyline and Shivalik Range.

            Besides this Tarakeswar Mahadev Temple, St. John's Church, Kaleswar Mahadev Temple, Howaghar, etc other viewpoints in Lansdowne.

How to Reach :

            Visitors can easily reach Delhi or Dehradun by air or train. Lansdowne 230 km from Delhi and 85km from Dehradun and both places well-connected by Cars, Buses, etc with other cities.

                Nearer Railway station Kotdwar, only 40km from Lansdowne.

Best time to Visit :

                In Lansdowne, the climate is fantastic throughout the year. With temperatures falling to 0 degrees Celsius, it can get extremely cold in the winters (Nov-Feb). With the highest temperature of about 25 degrees Celsius, in the summer (Apr-Jun) is nice. Lansdowne is breathtaking during the monsoons (Jul-Sep), but due to heavy rains, there is a risk of landslides.
